Caravelle Hotel & Casino Buys Two Virgin Islands Hotels

The owner of Virgin Islands’ Caravelle Hotel & Casino has recently confirmed the addition of two hotels to its operations. Both hotels – King Christian Hotel and Company House Hotel – are located in Christiansted, known to be the largest town on the Saint Croix island.

The acquisition of the two facilities was completed on November 30. King Christian Hotel features 44 hotel rooms, while Company House Hotel offers 36 rooms to its guests. Together with its existing operations on the Virgin Islands, Caravelle Hotel & Casino’s owner VIGL Operations will now manage a total of 124 hotel rooms. The company said that the purchase of the two hotels reaffirms their commitment to revitalizing the historic region and the whole island.

Caravelle Hotel was purchased by CRG Holdings back in 2015. The company joined forces with VIGL Operations to add a casino at the existing accommodation facility and to redevelop it into a gaming resort. The property underwent a $2.5-million renovation and was relaunched in February 2016.

It was later that year when VIGL Operations was given the green light to expand Caravelle Hotel’s operations by adding a casino. Under the terms of its casino license from Virgin Islands regulators, the operator is required to manage at least 75 hotel rooms in order to be allowed to operate a gambling facility.

VIGL Operations has pointed out that all three hotels are currently operational and open to guests, which means that it now exceeds the number of rooms required under its casino license agreement.

Renovation Plans at the Hotels

The operator has revealed further renovation plans for all three Christiansted properties it currently owns. Renovation work is expected to begin in 2018 and the years to come. Caravelle Hotel & Casino alone is planned to undergo a facelift in the period between May 2018 and September 2018. VIGL Operations has explained that the property needs to have the damage inflicted by Hurricane Maria repaired.

The powerful storm hit the region back in September. The US national Hurricane Center reported that the hurricane’s outer eyewall crossed Saint Croix, while it was at Category 5 intensity. The storm killed three people on the Virgin Islands and caused damages worth over $7.5 billion.

VIGL Operations is a subsidiary of Illinois-based B&B Amusement, known to be a developer and operator of entertainment venues in its home state Illinois as well as in Louisiana. It is also interesting to note that VIGL Operations’ business on the Virgin Islands is not limited to the operation of now three hotels and a casino.

The company has previously locked a 20-year franchise agreement with the government of the group of Caribbean islands to operate two racetracks, with those being Clinton E. Phipps on the Saint Thomas island and Randall “Doc” James on the Saint Croix island.
