Milton Prell opened the Hotel Sahara with 240 rooms in 1952. The $5.5 million, Moroccan-themed resort was decorated with life-sized camels. RayBolger, the scarecrow from “The Wizard of Oz,” headlined in the Congo Room until 1957.
